Hopefully the new year will be a good one for fishing with plenty of rain lately to give our rivers a well deserved flush out. Unfortunately some of the best rain was the same weekend as the crabathon. I think that the huge amount of fresh water in the river contributed to the very poor catch rate. This however did not deter Bob Bernie Murray from performing his spectacular pyrotechnics display that certainly brightened up a dull morning at Oatley boat ramp for all that were present to witness the show. Andrew Daredevil Davidson then decided may be it was not a good idea to put on a spectacle of this size at a busy boat ramp on a Sunday morning, especially the big bang that was planned for the end, so he decided to pull the plug on proceedings before the fire brigade were required.

The new season is up and running with the first weigh in held on the 16th. Fish of the month was salmon, Chris Mason won the prize with the only salmon 1.6kg to be weighed. It was a good start to the season with 16 fishos for 47 fish. Congratulations to Bill Nolan for christening his new boat and to Maria for weighing in her first fish. Jan Barley also caught fish outside, it is great to see points scored on the first weekend for a trophy that was not won last year. We have some new members who i would like to welcome to the fishing club.
